My First Month Of College
Marshall Rudd
The first month of college has been eye opening because of the new type of environment and it is very different than high school. High school wasn’t that hard for me because I had a lot of friends around me and it was hard for me to split apart from them. My favorite part of college is the schedules of my classes and how I made it how I wanted, and this is great because I made my earliest classes every day at 11 because I am not a morning person. I also love that in most of my classes they let you out early sometimes, but in high school they never let you out early no matter what because everyone had the same times for classes. I have met some new people here and they are great, but it isn’t the type of friendships I had back home. Settling into College Station was hard for me not having my parents with me or not all my friends here with me so the first week it was hard to realize I was living alone without my parents. It made it easier for me to live here when I went home to The Woodlands one day and realizing I wasn’t too far from everyone and that I can visit whenever I want. Also settling into the campus wasn’t too bad because it isn’t too big, and it is easy to get around and I would rather have a small campus than a giant one, so it will be simple to get to all my classes. So far, all my classes are great, and I chose some great teachers for all of them and I like how most of them are helping me prepare for other college classes. Some of my classes aren’t too difficult and they are teaching me important things and will help me get through college successfully. I had my first test of college today and it was kind of what I expected from it, but all the material we went over in class helped a lot on the test and made it easy to answer some of the questions. This test was free response and I did not take that many free response tests in high school, but I don’t mind free response because it makes you a better test taker because you must know the answer and not just guess like you could on a multiple-choice test. I expect most test in college to be this difficult and I think this will help my test taking skills when I take free response tests. Overall through the first month of college I decided that it is a whole lot better than high school. I think it is better because of how you can choose your schedule and teachers rather than getting a random schedule and teachers you don’t like. Also, I like how you don’t have to take as many classes as high school and that some classes are just twice a week and how I only have one fifty-minute class on Friday and then I can leave.
Marshall, If you can excel on a "free response" -or, as I call them, short answer test- then you can excel on pretty much anything. We'll see what happens when exams are returned Wednesday . . . . or next Monday. Blessings to you on building a community here that's as tight as yours back home.
ReplyDeleteLeaving my friends was a tough time for me as well because my friends made my life a million times more interesting.
ReplyDeleteYou just gotta find the right friends and you will give it time. Be open to many many things.
ReplyDeleteI used to hate going to school everyday from 8:00 to 3:45. Now I have a lot less classes, which is fun.
ReplyDeleteI hate morning classes but salute you for liking them
